Textbooks and workbooks are from New Concept Chinese (book 2, Lesson 6) and Lang Lang Chinese (starter). The curriculum will use simplified Characters and Pinyin (Traditional character and Bo-Po-Mo also available according to the needs of the child).

In the second grade, students are introduced to many different master artists, such as Vincent  van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Georgia O’Keeffe. With each artist, they learn a new technique and gain different perspectives. Assignments are geared toward interpretation and imagination.

Second graders are issued iPads for use in the classroom. The classroom teacher will introduce learning apps, videos, presentations, interactive quizzes and documentation to enhance what is taught in the classroom.  Teachers can also individualize teaching when necessary. Students will also use readily available tools such as the dictionary, calculator, camera and more.


  • Locomotor Skills: jumping for distance; practice a correct landing to reduce the impact of force; skipping and leaping in proper form
  • Manipulative Skills: rolling and throwing a ball for distance; catching above and below the waist; kicking a moving object; striking a ball from a tee; jump roping; perfecting the movement and form of kicking, striking, catching, and throwing a ball
  • Movement concepts: moving through open spaces within boundaries at increasing rates of speed; reducing the impact of force of an oncoming object
  • Rhythm Skills: perform simple folk dance and ribbon routines
  • Muscular Strength/Endurance: perform abdominal curl-ups, push-ups, lunges, and squats; identify how muscle strength and endurance enhances performance
  • Group Dynamics: practice teamwork and learn that each player is important to the team; practice good sportsmanship
  • Fundamentals of sports, game play, and knowledge of rules: soccer, basketball, kickball, hockey, dodgeball and football
